Mohair questions and answers.
How do I wash my mohair?
Most mohair gear won’t need to be washed more than once a year. Even then a basic rinse in a bucket of water, with a running hose over it will be enough.
If you still think it needs cleaning and has hard dirt, stones etc use a nylon brush to gently work the dirt free. Gently dunk in and out of a bucket of warm water, liquid soap such as horse shampoo can be used if desired. Rinse until water is clean. Roll in a towel to remove excess water and either lay flat or hand to dry in the shade.
If the side against the horse is free of debris and is still soft and pliable, it won’t need to be washed yet
Leave any horse hair (unless it is big clumps and can sore your horse) as it weaves into the mohair and creates cushioning and what’s more natural than your horses hair?
Do not scrub your mohair, machine wash or use hot water!
